Walking

Walking is the most popular form of active leisure participation amongst men and women (SPARC NZ).  The movement patterns are quite different from running and the sport attracts its own injury types, particularly front of shin and heel pain.
Walker’s should walk in walking shoes, not running shoes.  They are designed very differently and in doing so will help to reduce likelihood of injury.  Walking shoes have the following key features:
  • Lower heel height than running shoes
  • Stronger forefoot sole that doesn’t wear quickly
  • More flexible in the toes than running shoes.

Bigfoot Podiatrists know every sport shoe on the market and will prescribe the most appropriate for individual sport and injury type.
